WILLIAM CRIGHTON ANNOUNCES FIRST SOLO TOUR

By | Music, Tour

WILLIAM CRIGHTON

ANNOUNCES FIRST SOLO TOUR

APRIL AND MAY 2019

with special guest Beans on Toast (UK)

Like Tom Waits and Nick Cave, William Crighton is an original.

But, apart from that, he’s like no one else – Stack Magazine

Acclaimed singer-songwriter and unique Australian performer William Crighton embarks on his first headline solo tour throughout April and May 2019.

William says “This tour I will be on stage solo, telling some stories, sharing some thoughts and performing songs from both albums as well as airing some new material for the first time. This is my first headline tour performing solo and I’ve been putting a lot of effort into making it a memorable one for you. I’ll be playing some keys and other various stringed things”. Obviously, I love the band and it will be a different experience not having them there this time but exploring, experimenting and peeling back the songs solo, finding out what can be conjured together with you in this format is an exciting prospect for me”.

Tickets for William Crighton’s first ever solo show are available now – for ticketing information, head to www.williamcrightonmusic.com.au

Combining traditional sounds with unexpected experimentation William has released two albums since 2016, the latest of which ‘Empire’ was labelled by Dave Faulkner of the Hoodoo Gurus as ‘The best album of 2018, local or international’. He has toured extensively throughout Australia, Europe, UK, Canada and the US over the last two years and is rapidly building a reputation as a must-see artist.

William Crighton will be joined by UK artist ‘Beans on Toast’ who is a leading torch in the new wave of UK folk artists. The pair met whilst playing in the UK in 2018. William says “I met Beans on Toast in the UK at Boomtown Fair, I didn’t see his gig there, but we caught up for a drink and had a great yarn. I saw his show at Edinburgh Fringe festival a week later and was a fan.  He’s relaxed, funny, serious and bizarre at the same time. If you haven’t heard of him he’s definitely worth a listen”.

After more than 10 years in the game, English songwriter Beans on Toast has become something of a cult figure. He’s a hippy, a punk, a poet, a drunk, a die-hard romantic and an eternal optimist. Singing simple songs that tackle big issues. Political protest songs for the modern day, honest and open Love songs. Songs that will make you laugh, but also make you think with no holds barred honest lyrics and quick wit.

The Beans on Toast live show is an odd and unpredictable experience. A singer, storyteller and guitar player his self-deprecating quality is not something you often see, but it breaks down the barrier between musician and audience, creating a sense of equality. This run of shows supporting William Crighton will be his first ever tour of Australia, something he’s been desperate to do for a long time now.

DON’T MISS WILLIAM CRIGHTON LIVE IN 2019

These will be very memorable shows.

Dashville Does the Monkey at Australian Music Week

By | Tour

Dashville to host special Australian Music Week showcase at The Brass Monkey, Cronulla

Dashville will host a very special musical showcase at Australian Music Week 2017.

Held at the Brass Monkey, Cronulla, on Thursday, November 2, 2017, “Dashville Does the Monkey” will feature an array of Australia’s finest and most acclaimed modern songwriters, plus a special overseas guest.

WILLIAM CRIGHTON has fast made a name for himself as a must-see live performer. His self-titled debut record was widely acclaimed upon its release through ABC Music, and the last half of 2017 has been spent headlining Dashville Skyline, touring with Dan Sultan and working on his second full-length record.

MELODY POOL is one of Australia’s true musical treasures; a writer of timeless songs wrought of raw emotional power. The lauded release of her two records, The Hurting Scene and Deep Dark Savage Heart, saw her support The Eagles, Don Henley and Rodriguez.

TERRA LIGHTFOOT, of Waterdown, Ontario, will appear at Dashville Does the Monkey as our special international guest. Alongside that powerful, brassy voice, her songs tap into the raw emotion of hearts supercharged by love, lust, loneliness and temptation. Terra’s playing melds expert finger-picking and distorted, hook-heavy melodies. Her new record, New Mistakes, is released October 13.

MAGPIE DIARIES is the heartfelt balladry and country tinged rock of Matt “Magpie” Johnston, the promoter and mastermind behind the Dashville stable. Singing songs about life, love and the land, Magpie Diaries has a classic Americana roots sound and a songbook that’s bound to get stuck in your head for weeks to come.

DAVE WELLS is one of the country’s finest undiscovered gems. Already a crowd favourite in his home of the Hunter Valley, a wider audience is slowly waking up to the giant talents of this supreme songwriter and vocalist. Do yourself a favour and make sure you’re there for his return to The Brass Monkey.

The showcase is open to Australian Music Week attendees with a Thursday Night Live Shows pass. First in best dressed. The showcase runs from 6pm to 9pm.

William Crighton joins Terra Lightfoot (Can) for Australian tour

By | Tour

William Crighton and Canada’s Terra Lightfoot join forces for ‘Stand on the Side Of Love’ tour

Acclaimed songwriter William Crighton will hit the road with lauded Canadian singer-songwriter Terra Lightfoot in November. The shows will feature new music from his anticipated second album due for release in 2018.

His 2016 self-titled debut record revealed Crighton to be a master craftsman of song and a formidable performing artist. Currently on tour with Dan Sultan, Crighton has had a busy 2017. He has released and toured 7-inch single Hope Recovery, played a swag of festivals, including WOMADelaide, supported The Beach Boys and The Temptations, and showcased at Canadian Music Week.

On the October long weekend he will make a triumphant return to home soil to headline the Friday night of Dashville Skyline (September 29), and South Australia’s Semaphore Festival (October 1), before he hits New York City for a showcase performance at the Mondo Music Conference.

The tour’s name, ‘Stand on the Side of Love’, is inspired by one of the new tracks that Crighton has been working on alongside producer Matt Sherrod on his second full-length recording.

Terra Lightfoot has created quite a buzz in her home territory of Canada. The soulful rocker and lion-hearted singer-songwriter will now make her maiden trip to Australia, having already found a following in countries such as France and the UK. Lightfoot is a triple-threat onstage and a charming, outsized personality to boot.

Pop Matters wrote: “A roots rocker with a powerful voice and a bad-ass Gibson SG that she plays with consummate ease… she could be your new rock ‘n’ roll hero. Drawing from rock, soul and blues, [Terra Lightfoot] is a monster talent that will be gracing the world’s largest festival stages in no time.”

It appears the pairing of Crighton and Lightfoot is the meeting of two like-minded souls.

Latest Praise for William Crighton

“It would not be unfair to say Crighton’s growing legion of followers come along for a near-religious experience. To say he’s capable of taking an audience to another level is not an understatement.” – Jim Kellar, Newcastle Herald

William Crighton – Hope Recovery

By | Music, Tour

William Crighton to release Limited Edition 7-inch vinyl, announces May tour.

Uniquely penetrating storytelling.” Gareth Hipwell – Rolling Stone

Buoyed by a mesmerising debut record and a slew of live appearances that defined ferocity of spirit, William Crighton’s 2016 was nothing short of a breakthrough year.

The “Riverina Kid” has no intention of resting on his laurels in 2017. Already this year he’s delivered some amazing performances at Riverboats Festival in Victoria, Skyfields in Tasmania, WOMADelaide in South Australia, and Blue Mountains Folk Festival in NSW. He’s played alongside Paul Kelly, Neil Finn, The Beach Boys and The Temptations.

In April, Crighton will head over to Canada for a run of showcases at Canadian Music Week and East Coast Music Week. But next up he will release a hypnotic new recording courtesy of a limited edition 7-inch vinyl and digital single called Hope Recovery on March 31.

To coincide with this new release, Crighton will perform a string of dates along the East Coast of Australia, throughout May and June which will take his live performances to a new level.

HOPE RECOVERY  LIMITED EDITION 7-INCH VINYL

SIDE ON – Talking To God

SIDE TWO – Hope Recovery / After the Gold Rush

Still available for purchase via Hope Recovery Tour on Dashville’s store

Hope Recovery sees Crighton collaborate once again with producer and drummer Matt Sherrod of Crowded House.

The release was recorded in various locations including Mullumbimby, in the mountains of Laguna and his backyard caravan at home in the Hunter Valley. The digital release is presented as an 8.46-minute piece of music and will be available to the public for download on March 31.

It flows seamlessly from the epic jam and rumination on religious accountability ‘Talking to God’ into the uplifting and delicate Australiana soundscape of the title track. The bonus is Neil Young’s classic environmental lament ‘After the Gold Rush’.

Crighton’s upcoming shows will be a musical feast for those that attend, with each intimate evening presenting over two hours of music and a range of special guests.

The Hunter Valley based singer-songwriter is known for his powerful and mesmerising live performances. Respected Australian music journalist Iain Shedden, of The Australian, recently described Crighton’s Tamworth Regional Art Gallery appearance in glowing terms:

Once in a lifetime a gig surpasses all expectations, slapping you in the face with its grace, majestic singing, the quality of the material, and, in this instance, the acoustic ambience of the venue… [it] demonstrated music’s power to stir the heart and soul. In my all-time Top 10 that one.”

William Crighton & Claire Anne Taylor – National Tour July/August 2016

DASHVILLE and RHYTHMS presents
WILLIAM CRIGHTON and CLAIRE ANNE TAYLOR
NATIONAL TOUR July/August 2016

Two musical trajectories born of enthralling live performances and evocative storytelling will converge in July and August for a run of shows nationally.

William Crighton and Claire Anne Taylor have carved their name into the Australian music scene this year with universally acclaimed debut albums and strong praise from live music reviews, each shaped by their formative years spent in rural serenity.

Crighton’s journey started in the Riverina and has taken him around the world, with extensive time spent in Nashville. Returning to Australia, he settled momentarily on the rugged banks of Burrinjuck Dam, near the South West Slopes region of NSW to record his self-titled debut. It’s a stirring songbook that captures the gritty essence of our vast country.

Taylor’s story also begins in the wilderness. The soulful singer grew up in Tasmania’s ancient Tarkine rainforest, where she was born into her father’s hands in the family barn amongst a congregation of her five siblings. In March, the flame-haired musician released her debut album, Elemental.

Crighton and Taylor are cut from same cloth. They wear their hearts firmly on their sleeve, penning songs that capture the human experience.

William Crighton – Debut Album Release Tour

By | Tour

Self-titled debut album released today
Tour dates kick off April 23 at The Gum Ball

There’s an energy building around new Australian talent William Crighton, and it’s not by accident.

Crighton has stamped himself as one of our most exciting artists, his debut self-titled album introducing a storyteller with a rare depth to his lyrics. For the deep-voiced songwriter and intense live performer, there were no short cuts taken to arrive at this body of work. Beneath each track are thousands of kilometres, and within are stories wrought of trees and roads and dust, soaked in the essence of our ancient continent.

Authenticity is the element that defines this darkly beautiful and wrenching debut, released today via ABC Music / UMA. The album was recorded in William’s hometown of Burrinjuck, and produced and mixed by Matt Sherrod of Crowded House and Beck fame.

For the last few years William Crighton has been building a strong buzz around his songs and live performances — both solo and with his band. Finally we see the fruition of his songwriting and recording with this mesmerising debut album … The confessional Woman Like You, the Riverina stomp of Priest and the bristling, brooding rock groove of Jesus Blues are but three highlights from this exceptional debut.” 4 and a half stars, The Music

To mark the release of his debut album, William will embark on an East Coast tour with his exceptional 5-piece band, kicking off in his local area with The Gum Ball Music Festival on April 23 and winding up in Brisbane on May 7.

William is excited to unveil his album in the live space as he embarks on his first headline tour, saying today,
I’m very happy to have my good mates and family playing with me on this tour. The album was recorded with an energy that really grows when we play live. The band is Matt Sherrod, Luke Crighton , Julieanne Crighton, Christopher Dale, Jason Walker and myself. We’ll have a few very special guests a long the way as well.”
